| Customer Reviews: ok, not as good as other flavors July 31, 2010 David S. Reid (PA) This bar is OK. Other flavors, such as chocolate mint or lemon have a far superior taste. Clif Builder Bars in general are awesome as a meal replacement with the 20 grams of protein.
Don't be fooled July 27, 2010 These are a healthier candy bar, and not a good choice for getting protein. They're loaded with sugars and saturated fats - there's more carbohydrates than proteins in these things. If you're eating a protein bar in order to get protein, in the context of a healthier diet, there's plenty of other bars with equal (or greater) amounts of protein, but with substantially less sugars and fat, that I still think taste fine. As for the taste of these bars - I find them to be something like a medicinal candy bar, and cloyingly sweet. I wouldn't call them bad, but I don't really enjoy the taste either.
I couldn't recommend these to people, except for those who absolutely have to eat candy bars from time to time, and want to try something a bit healthier. It might also be good a good snack for a long hike.
Energizing and tasty; a little dry July 19, 2010 C. Anton (Boston, MA USA) Bought this item because I frequently leave the gym and go straight to something else without the ability to sit down to dinner. Effective way to recover with high protein if you cannot cook yourself a proper meal. Somewhat dry, so make sure you have water available as well.
Awesome tasting, all natural protein bars July 5, 2010 HTBK (San Francisco, CA USA) It's tough to find all natural protein bars. It's also tough to find protein bars that taste good without being horrible for you (aka glorified candy bars). These are both.
They are fairly calorie heavy, but if you're burning a ton of calories, looking to bulk up, or even just maintaining with reasonable weightlifting and cardio, these are perfect. I look forward to having them, and they helped my wife get her chocolate fix during P90X without giving in and having a fat-laden chocolate bar.
The price for this pack is also unheard of for protein or energy bars, especially if you do subscribe and save.
Good protein product June 12, 2010 packersowner 4 (De Pere, WI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
No one would recommend substituting a builder bar or the like for a proper meal, or to rely on such foods as a solution for poor eating habits, but having my teen grab a Clif Builder's bar at least provides him something better than vending machine fare on those days when he dashes off to school without breakfast. I ask him to take an apple, banana, bag of raw nuts/seeds, etc. too, but the Clif Bar is usually the first consumed. It helps get him to lunch at least, and helps prevent the mental lows that can otherwise occur with insufficient protein intake. At 20 grams protein, the bar provides approximately 40% of the daily value for protein (based on a 2000 calorie diet). I play tennis 3-5 times weekly, and keep a couple Clif Builder's bars in my tennis bag (they store well) for times when I don't have immediate access to other protein sources needed for post-match muscle repair or recovery. I order 2 dozen through Amazon "Subscribe & Save" (free shipping), which results in a cost per bar significantly lower than Walmart, CostCo, etc. I select a longer-length fixed schedule that doesn't result in an over-supply for my family, and then order when I see the supply running low. I click the option to use the current date as the basis for determining the next scheduled ship date. For those who find builder bars useful, Clif is a good one: tastes very good, natural ingredients, higher protein than most, and more affordable via Amazon Subscribe & Save.
